Alabama is a beautiful state blessed with abundant natural resources. As citizens, and stewards of what we have been given, we must ensure our heritage is not sold out from under us by those who have little or no interest in the long-term impact of their industries on our communities and our environment. We believe a quarry sited adjacent to the Saugahatchee Creek in a primarily residential area can only have a detrimental effect on our larger community.   If this action -- initiated by an out-of-state company that has no concern for the well-being of Alabama, or Alabamians -- succeeds, you can consider this picture the "before" photo, that will soon be replaced with the likes of what has happened to Chewacla Creek at the hands of the Martin-Marietta quarry , or Springvilla at the hands of Hanson quarry.   We cannot allow our legacy be traded for a truckload of rocks.
